Around the country in November
The staff of the City of Hafnarfjörður have set themselves the goal of walking around the entire country in November. Each day the distance covered is tallied to see how far the group has come. 779 kilometres have already been covered.
Staff at Hafnarfjörður Municipality have set themselves the goal of walking around the island of Iceland in November. Participation in the project is tracked on an internal staff communication platform, where staff walk either individually or in small groups and submit details of the kilometres they have covered. The total distance is compiled daily to see how far the group has come.
The group is „located“ in Berufjörður in Múlaþing
Just over a hundred are registered to take part and after the first week, more than half of the Ring Road has been completed. A total of 779 km has been walked, and the group is therefore „stuck“ in Berufjörður in Múlaþing.

After the first week, the route is more than halfway complete and a total of 779 km have been walked. The group is therefore „located“ in Berufjörður in Múlaþing, at approximately the spot where the last stretch of gravel on the Ring Road was tarmacked in 2019, with a view of Búlandstindur and Djúpivogur just around the corner.
The journey has gone something like this so far:
- Wednesday, 4 November. The group reached Hafnarfjall, having covered 65 km.
- Thursday, 5 November. The group was more or less on schedule and had just arrived in Víðigerði. They had covered a total of 209 km.
- Friday, 6 November. Participation picked up and the group was standing by Stórutjarnarskóli. They unexpectedly cut their route through the Vaðlaheiðargöngin, as they were excited about the new tunnel, but of course you're not allowed to walk or cycle there! The shortcut will be made up later.
- Saturday, 7th November. The group was well on its way to Egilsstaðir and was standing by the waterfall Ytri-Rjúkandi, which is one of the gems of Fljótsdalshérað by the Ring Road at Jökuldal and is clearly visible from the main road.

The tour around the country continues, and it's very much a question whether the Westfjords might also be taken in this November. Everything is pointing towards it!
