From 19th to 27th November 2022, European Week for Waste Reduction is taking place. The aim of the week and the campaign is to encourage people to reduce unnecessary consumption, make better use of items and thus reduce waste generation. This year's theme is sustainability and the circularity of textiles, under the slogan Waste is no longer in fashion! The textile industry is one of the world's largest, and it is associated with huge amounts of chemical use, freshwater pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, so reducing textile waste is of great importance.

Let's do our bit to create a circular economy for textiles in society.

In celebration of Efficiency Week, local authorities, businesses, institutions, schools and the general public are encouraged to learn about the environmental impact of textiles and contribute to creating a circular economy for textiles in society. For example, by setting up a clothes swap at school, with friends and at work, or letting your imagination run wild, holding repair cafés, lectures or anything that supports less waste.

All those organising events or other activities related to Reuse Week this year are encouraged to share them with the project organisers on The Waste Awareness Week Facebook page by sending them a message. You can also get in touch via the email address. samangegnsoun@samangegsoun.is. Participants and other interested parties are encouraged to take photos and tag their posts with: #samangegnsoun #nytnivikan #ewwr2022

The Environmental Agency runs the project Together Against Waste and Facebook, Instagram and Home page Information on the environmental and social impacts of the textile industry and solutions to the challenges it faces can be found in the project.
