Did you know about this? Grants for events in swimming pools

News

We would like to draw the attention of Hafnarfjörður residents to the fact that it is possible to apply for a grant for events at the country's swimming pools. It would be lovely to see more events at the swimming pools in Hafnarfjörður.

Culture in the swimming pools

The Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, in collaboration with the National Museum of Iceland, is inviting applications for grants for cultural events in the country's swimming pools. This follows the inclusion of Icelandic swimming pool culture on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The aim of the grants is to promote a diverse range of events in swimming pools across the country. The events are intended both to raise awareness of swimming pool culture and to enrich the cultural life of local communities. Events must take place in 2026.

Collaboration between local authorities (swimming pool operators), churches and cultural institutions, voluntary organisations and individuals is encouraged for events, and confirmation of this collaboration must be submitted with the application.

4 million krónur are available for allocation. The maximum grant is 500,000 krónur.

The application deadline is 20 March 2026. Applications should be submitted via the ministry's application portal: Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education

It would be great to see these events here in Hafnarfjörður.
