Three projects received a grant from the Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund at a ceremony in the Hafnarfjarðarkirkja community centre, Hásölum, on the birthday of Dr Bjarni Snæbjörnsson, 8th March.

Húsið – Youth Centre received two grants: Ísjakarnir, a group activity aimed at integrating young people of foreign origin into the community, received 150,000, and Stuðboltarnir, a group for young people with disabilities, received 95,000 for an adventure trip. Inga Björk Ingadóttir received five hundred thousand kronur for the development of the Music Therapy Centre Hljóma at Austurgata 38. .

Magnús Snæbjörnsson presented the grants on behalf of the board of the Memorial Fund, with Magnús serving on the fund's board alongside the Reverend Jón Helgi Þórarinsson and Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir.

The Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund has been operating since 2006. Its purpose is to support and empower individuals, businesses or public bodies in Hafnarfjörður that provide services and assistance to children facing any kind of hardship. Since the fund was established, 24 projects have received grants.

It is the hope of Helga and Bjarni's family that the scholarships will serve to further strengthen the good and rewarding work of the scholarship recipients with the youth of Hafnarfjörður.
