Ash Wednesday 2016

News

All children in Hafnarfjörður are experiencing Ash Wednesday festivities in their local area this year. All primary schools in Hafnarfjörður are having a shortened day, with the school routine interrupted by fun and festivities.

Happy Ash Wednesday!

It has been a tradition in Hafnarfjörður to make a big deal of Shrove Tuesday, as there is little more fun than dressing up in all sorts of fancy dress and having a good time. For us adults, it is a great pleasure to see these little and slightly bigger treasures singing and playing, much to the delight of themselves and others.

Ash Wednesday in the local area – a shortened day at schools

All children in Hafnarfjörður will experience Ash Wednesday festivities in their local area this year, just as they did last year, as it is a format that has proved very successful. In Hafnarfjörður's primary schools, the school day is shortened and the school routine is broken up with fun activities. Each school organises its own programme. The after-school clubs run a programme of entertainment for the children attending. Some youth clubs will be holding Ash Wednesday festivities in the afternoon and evening.

There will be no organised programme in the town centre, but doubtless some shops and other places that will give a warm welcome to singing lads and lasses.
