Grant awards from the Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund

On 8th March, grants were awarded from the Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund at a ceremony in Hásölum, the parish hall of Hafnarfjörður Church, on Bjarni Snæbjörnsson's birthday. Magnús Snæbjörnsson presented the grants on behalf of the board of the Memorial Fund, which he chairs alongside the Reverend Jón Helgi Þórarinsson and Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir.

This time, three projects received grants. Bjartey Sigurðardóttir and Ásthildur Snorradóttir received a 500,000 króna grant to develop the app 'Orðagull', which aims to enhance vocabulary, working memory, auditory processing and expression. A partnership providing homework support for students from foreign backgrounds received 450,000 króna, and the sports club Fjörður received 500,000 króna to enhance its sports school.

The Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund has been operating since 2006. The fund's purpose is to support and empower individuals, businesses or public bodies in Hafnarfjörður that provide services and assistance to children facing any kind of hardship. Since the fund was established, 27 projects have received grants. It is the hope of Helga and Bjarni's family that the grants will further enhance the good and rewarding work of the recipients for the youth of Hafnarfjörður.
