A contract has been signed for the design and consultancy of the care home to be built on the Sólvangur site in Hafnarfjörður. Following a tendering process, it was decided to enter into a contract with the company Úti og Inni sf.

This is a 60-bed care home, with completion scheduled for April 2018. The plans of the local council in Hafnarfjörður are to connect the building to Sólvang and partly use Sólvang as a service centre for the municipality's elderly residents. The decision is in line with the strategic plan for the welfare of older people in Hafnarfjörður, which states that Sólvangur will be the centre for elderly care services in the municipality. Various support services are already in place there, which it is important to have in the vicinity of a new care home.

The project management for the development of the nursing home oversees the tendering for the building and site works and shall follow the project through until the building and site are fully completed and the nursing home begins operations.  Stefán B. Veturliðason has been appointed project manager. Sigurður Haraldsson, Director of Environmental and Planning Services, signed the contract on behalf of the City of Hafnarfjörður, and Baldur Ó. Svavarsson and Jón Þór Þorvaldsson on behalf of Úti og inni sf.

The project management is organised as follows:

Helga Ingólfsdóttir (Chair), Guðlaug Kristjánsdóttir, Sigurður P. Sigmundsson, Gylfi Ingvarsson, Birna Ólafsdóttir, Þórdís Bakkmann Kristinsdóttir and Elísabet Valgeirsdóttir.  In addition, the heads of the Environmental and Planning Services and Family Services departments work with the board.
