The beauty game is rewarded

A number of suggestions from residents and employees of businesses in Hafnarfjörður were received when nominations were sought for Awards for the tidiness and beauty of plots, gardens and streets in the municipality. The businesses Héðinn, Krónan and Te og kaffi are considered good examples of corporate tidiness and general upkeep. The Star Street area is at Gauksás 39-65, where residents, through their cooperation, have created a tidy and attractive streetscape.   

Earlier this summer, the City of Hafnarfjörður called on residents and other interested parties for nominations for awards for the tidiness and beauty of properties, gardens and streets in Hafnarfjörður. Today, the awards were presented at a ceremony at the premises of the Hafnarfjörður Forestry Association. The owners of gardens at Brekkugata 25, Dvergholt 11, Fléttuvellir 29 and Hringbraut 39 received an award for the variety of their planting, good upkeep, tidiness and the passion they put into their gardening. The block of flats at Hringbraut 2a, 2b and 2c also received an award for its tidy outdoor area, which has clearly been developed and maintained through the cooperation of enthusiastic neighbours.  Gauksás 39-65 is considered the most beautiful street in Hafnarfjörður and has been awarded the title 'Star Street'. There, residents have taken pride in tidily maintaining their plots of land.

Four companies awarded for good environmental practices and contribution to environmental issues

The company Héðinn has taken great pride in the good presentation of its site at Gjáhellu 4 and is considered exemplary for the tidiness of its grounds in a designated industrial area. Héðinn is receiving an award for its contribution to the beautification of an industrial area for the second time.  Te og Kaffi is an example of another Hafnarfjörður-based company that, through its community spirit and can-do attitude, has transformed an industrial environment in a remarkable way and made it tidy in collaboration with its neighbouring companies.  Krónan is the third company to receive an award from the City of Hafnarfjörður today. Krónan has built a new store at Flatahraun in Hafnarfjörður. The store was built at an incredible speed, and the landscaping of the site and customer access are considered exemplary. Krónan is the first shop in the town of Hafnarfjörður to install green parking spaces with charging points for its customers; all spaces are clearly marked and the pedestrian routes to the shop are clear.

With these awards, the City of Hafnarfjörður aims to raise public interest in the beautification of the town's environment by drawing attention to exemplary individuals who should thus serve as an inspiration for others to take action.
