The youth centre, Setrið, offers children and teenagers in Years 5-10 a venue for a wide range of fun leisure activities in the school building after the regular school day has finished. The work is based on youth democracy and a preventative approach. Setrið is a venue for open social activities, a structured programme, group work, and various events run by staff with young people.

The job is for about 25 hours per week and is well-suited for students or those looking for a part-time job, as the working hours are outside of normal working hours.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Participates in organising and shaping a varied programme.
  • Extensive communication and collaboration with children and teenagers
  • Create a positive atmosphere based on respect and democratic working practices.
  • Supports the initiatives of children and adolescents, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Other tasks as specified in the job description and as assigned to the employee by their manager.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • On-the-job training, courses and/or some work experience is sufficient to acquire the required knowledge.
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Knowledge of Icelandic
  • Punctuality and organisational skills, initiative and the ability to work independently
  • A wide range of interests that are utilised in the work of community centres.
  • General computer skills

A condition of employment is that the person has a clean criminal record.
