We are looking for a driven and energetic school and leisure team member to join our ambitious school programme on a 60% basis. Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate must be male, in order to accompany pupils during swimming and PE lessons.

At Skarðshlíðarskóli, we have enthusiastic and fun-loving pupils, a dedicated staff, and a strong parent body. We emphasise a good working atmosphere, team teaching, varied teaching methods, SMT school skills, and ensuring all pupils achieve good results in play and work. Mílan is an integral part of the school's work, which involves pupils and staff going outside daily to walk, jog or run for 15 minutes.

Skarðshlíðarskóli is a comprehensive school with pupils in Years 1 to 10. The school building is impressive and the school is well-equipped, with a sports hall, a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School and a four-department nursery school in the same building. 

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Assisting with general classroom work under the guidance of a teacher
  • Accompanying to swimming and sports
  • Receives students in the morning
  • Assisting in the dining hall and with meal preparation.
  • Covers break time supervision, escort and supervision during the daily school routine.
  • Carries out patrol and monitoring of the premises and equipment, and keeps corridors and toilets tidy throughout the day.
  • Works with students with specific difficulties
  • Other tasks as per the job description

Educational and competency requirements

  • Experience of working with children is desirable.
  • A great interest and ambition to work with children 
  • Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness
  • Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum of C1 according to the ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)
  • General computer skills

A condition of employment is that the person has a clean criminal record.

The remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
