Memmm Play opens in Hafnarfjörður
The City of Hafnarfjörður is taking an active part in the implementation of the open nursery concept in Iceland. The non-profit organisation Memmm Play has been running such a nursery in collaboration with the social services department of the City of Reykjavík, and now the City of Hafnarfjörður has jumped on board. The Open Nursery in Hafnarfjörður will be located at Selhæll 7 and will be open one morning a week to begin with. Every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm, starting from 3 October.
Free open nursery school offered weekly
The City of Hafnarfjörður is actively involved in the implementation of the open preschool concept in Iceland. The non-profit organisation Memmm Play has been running such a preschool in collaboration with the Social Services Department of the City of Reykjavík, and now the City of Hafnarfjörður has jumped on board. The open nursery in Hafnarfjörður will be located at Selhællan 7 and will be open one morning a week to begin with. Every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm, starting from 3 October. Memmm Play is comprised of professionals who are interested in the welfare of families in Iceland.
„An open nursery broadens the world of parents and children and has a positive and encouraging effect on everyone who is at home with young children. At the same time, it is an inclusive setting for families who are new to Iceland and also for families in a vulnerable position. Attendance and interest will then determine the number of opening days and opening hours in Hafnarfjörður going forward, but to begin with, one play session a week will be on offer, and it is hoped that as many people as possible will come along, play and enjoy themselves. This is not least about welfare, friendship and the bond between parents and children,“ says Fanney D. Halldórsdóttir, Director of the Education and Public Health Department for the City of Hafnarfjörður.

The Open Nursery School in Hafnarfjörður offers parents, parents, carers and young children aged 0-6 years a family-friendly, play-based setting where parents and children can enjoy quality time together in a beautiful environment, and parents can meet other parents while children meet peers during these important formative years of social development. Families are also offered educational sessions on a variety of topics related to parenting and children. The open nursery is welcome to attend at any time during opening hours, and the focus of the work is on play, creativity, flow, and a connection with nature and science, both indoors and outdoors.
