Ash Wednesday is on Wednesday – Now the fun begins!
One of the most fun days of the year is just around the corner: Ash Wednesday. It will be even better with a visit to the library, Hafnarborg, and the service centre here at the Town Hall.
Ash Wednesday in Hafnarfjörður
Yes, it's a cheerful tradition to celebrate Shrove Tuesday in Hafnarfjörður, as there's little more fun than dressing up in costumes and having a good time. Schools in Hafnarfjörður arrange their own programmes. The after-school clubs are open and, as always, will be colourful.
Shortened school day and Ash Wednesday break-up
Ash Wednesday in Hafnarfjörður will be observed in the usual way. The school day for primary school pupils is shortened, and the school day will end at around 11 a.m. in all of the borough's primary schools, although times will vary between schools and year groups.
Ash Wednesday will be a busy day at Hafnarfjörður's nurseries, with costumes and festivities, but otherwise, the normal nursery routine will continue.
Museums and service centres welcome cheerful, singing children.
The City of Hafnarfjörður is not organising any special festivities in the town centre of Hafnarfjörður on Ash Wednesday, as in previous years. However, our staff at Hafnarfjörður Town Hall at Strandgata 6, the Hafnarfjörður Library and Hafnarborg will give a warm welcome to the singing, cheerful children.
- The library welcomes visitors for Ash Wednesday between 11 am and 5 pm, and all the world's curiosities are welcome.
- Hafnarborg is open from 12 noon and sweets are on offer while stocks last.
- The service expects the children from 11 o'clock.
This is going to be fun. Let's enjoy seeing the children in all the colours of the rainbow.
