New life has been breathed into the old Lækjarskólinn in Hafnarfjörður. The Innovation Centre has made itself at home there and will be holding an open house on Tuesday, 27th May between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Bryndís Steina Friðgeirsdóttir, director of the Innovation Centre, took the helm at the beginning of the year. A lot has happened and a picture is emerging of how the work will develop in the coming quarters.

„The building is now different. We now have a facility here for recording music and making podcasts, which is a fun addition to the services the library already provides,“ says Bryndís.

„We have a space for holding meetings, lectures and courses. Next winter, the arts activities will be enhanced and courses in art creation will be held. We also have the tech lab, which gives people the opportunity to work with 3D printing, a laser cutter and a vinyl cutter. It's very exciting,“ says Bryndís, adding that schools in Hafnarfjörður have been bringing groups to try it out. A new youth centre will also be getting premises in the Innovation Centre this autumn, and it will be called Hreiðrið.

But what will the residents of Hafnarfjörður see at the open house?

  • Einar Sverrisson will be giving a presentation on the 3D material he has created. „He will talk about the magic of the 3D production process.“
  • It will be possible to heat-press textile vinyl onto fabric. People can then heat-press pictures onto their own T-shirts or even tote bags that they bring themselves.
  • A popcorn machine will be on site and some sweets.
  • The youth council presents what they do
  • The Work School reports on its work
  • Tómas Vigur Magnússon, a violinist, plays several pieces.
  • The music room is open and you can play the electronic drums and the electric piano.
  • Role-playing games will be presented
  • You can get a cup of coffee at Bollanum, the Innovation Centre's coffee facility.

„We will show the facility,“ says Bryndís. With her will be the staff of the Innovation Centre who have been working with her to put it in its current form: Alexander Jóhann Hauksson, Árni Thor Guðmundsson, Yrsa Björt Leiknisdóttir Kvien and Þorbjörg Signý Ágústsson, who is also a mentor for the Creative Summer Jobs this summer.

Yes, welcome everyone to the Innovation Centre's open house!
