New shops in Firði open on Friday – Fireworks display
Fjörður, Hafnarfjörður's shopping centre, will nearly double in size in the coming days. Preparations for the opening of new shops are in full swing, and we, the people of Hafnarfjörður, will get to see the result on Friday. This will be celebrated with a fireworks display.
The heart of Hafnarfjörður grows with a new Fjord
Fjörður, Hafnarfjörður's shopping centre, is undergoing major changes these days. The shopping centre is almost doubling in size. Preparations for the opening of new shops are in full swing, and we, the people of Hafnarfjörður, will see the result on Friday. In total, Fjörður is expanding by 8,700 square metres.
Eighteen residential hotel apartments, Strand Hotel Apartments, will officially open in the Firði area of Hafnarfjörður at the end of the month. The milestone will be celebrated in collaboration with the City of Hafnarfjörður with a fireworks display at 19:20 on Friday evening.
„We are incredibly proud of this achievement. It has been ten years since we embarked on the project, and three years since the first groundbreaking. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and want to celebrate this with the people of Hafnarfjörður and our visitors,“ says Guðmundur Bjarni Harðarson, Managing Director of Fjarðar.
The hotel apartments and a larger shopping centre are not the only additions to Fjörður. There are also 31 luxury apartments. Some of them have already been sold, as the location is unique, in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.
Valdimar Víðisson, the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, says the development in Fjörður is one of the biggest steps forward taken in the town centre of Hafnarfjörður in decades. „Here we are creating a vibrant, attractive town centre where residents and visitors alike can live, shop and enjoy spending time together all year round,“ he says.
Guðmundur Bjarni says the retail and service environment in the centre of Hafnarfjörður will become more vibrant through interaction with the hotel and the apartments. „The town centre here will be a dream destination for Icelanders who want to experience the run-up to Christmas in Iceland, just as if they were on a city break abroad.“
A number of shops will be in the new Firði, including Gina Tricot, Lindex, A4, Lemon, Klukkan, Daily Comforts, Emil and Lína, Kona, Skóhöllin, Lyf og heilsa, Augastaður, Leikfangaland and Daría & Herrar – a shop with women's and men's clothing. There will also be a gourmet food shop in Firði.
„Yes, we look forward to welcoming residents of Hafnarfjörður and visitors,“ says Guðmundur Bjarni. The shopping centre will be the only one in the country connected to a shopping street. „Here on Strandgatan there are also a number of shops worth visiting – not to mention at Christmas when the Christmas Village at Thorsplan is open.“
Guðmundur Bjarni encourages visitors to park at the old or new Lækjarskóli and take a stroll in the heart of Hafnarfjörður. „Now everything is coming together. This is the Icelandic way. We work until the last minute and open as soon as possible.“
