Women's League in Hafnarfjörður receives a flag
The flag of the Women's League of Hafnarfjörður was consecrated at a joyful ceremony in the Kiwanis House yesterday.
The association is an umbrella organisation for over 6 women's societies here in Hafnarfjörður, founded on 11 October 1972. The church societies are the Women's Society of Hafnarfjörður Church and Free Church, the Sisters' Society of Víðistaðir Parish, Vorboðinn-Independent Women, Harpa-Progressive Women and Hrund-Women of the Tradesmen.
„There was a great turnout, an enjoyable book reading, a good message of joy from Millu the priest, and good fellowship,“ says Elfa Sif Jónsdóttir, the group's leader.
„We have felt for the past few terms that we were missing a ceremonial flag,“ says Elfa Sif, „and the City of Hafnarfjörður subsidised its production.“ The emblem on the flag was designed by Gunnar Hjaltason, a goldsmith and artist from Hafnarfjörður. He has also crafted the alliance's shield and a silver replica to be worn as a brooch or pin. Barbara adorns the emblem. "Yes, it's wonderful to have a flag in this women's campaign year."
Hafnarfjörður Municipality congratulates the club on its new trophy.
