Brynja receives a grant to purchase 16 flats
The City of Hafnarfjörður has agreed to provide the Brynja housing association with a foundation grant to purchase 16 flats for allocation to disabled people. Residents of Hafnarfjörður will be given priority in the allocation.
Start-up grant to Brynja for the purchase of 16 flats
The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður has approved providing the Brynja housing association with a capital grant to purchase 16 flats for allocation to disabled people.
An application was made for start-up funding for:
- 8 two-bedroom flats
- 4 for three-room flats
- 4 four-room flats
Hafnarfjörður's contribution is 12% of the total capital value, which amounts to approximately 139 million krónur to be paid this year.
„It is important to seek diverse ways to increase the number of homes in the social housing stock. This agreement is therefore extremely important for us here in Hafnarfjörður,“ says Valdimar Víðisson, the mayor.
The report from the City of Hafnarfjörður's committee on capital grants states that there has been very good cooperation between the Brynja housing association and the project manager for social housing at the City of Hafnarfjörður regarding the allocation of Brynja's flats for 2025. for flats for which the City of Hafnarfjörður provided capital grants for purchase.
Residents of Hafnarfjörður are given a certain priority.
„Individuals and families on the City of Hafnarfjörður's waiting list have been allocated flats by Brynja, as well as individuals/families who were in social rented housing with Hafnarfjörður municipality were allocated a flat by Brynja, and with that, flats were freed up in Hafnarfjörður municipality, which could be reallocated. Therefore, this collaboration has a good synergistic effect,“ it says.
„By approving a start-up grant for the Brynja Tenancy Association, the City of Hafnarfjörður is increasing the number of social housing units for disabled people within the municipality. The committee considers it important that individuals who are resident in Hafnarfjörður have a certain priority when it comes to the allocation of some of the flats. An agreement has now been issued between Brynja Leigufélag and the City of Hafnarfjörður, stipulating that a minimum of 75% of the flats are to be allocated to residents of Hafnarfjörður.“
Brynja owns and manages flats for disabled people.
Brynja's role is to own and manage flats for people with disabilities. Brynja's general flats are allocated to tenants who are below the defined income and asset limits, and priority is given based on how long the applicant has been on the waiting list for a flat.
