Actors Bjarni and Gúa Margrét, a jazz band and our Swimming Pool play the main roles as the film When Harry Met Sally comes to life here in Hafnarfjörður.

An experience at our swimming pool

„The moment you arrive at the swimming pool, you're in another world. You're in a world of adventure,“ says Hrönn Marinósdóttir, director of the RIFF film festival, which is bringing the festival to Hafnarfjörður next Thursday. Then the film comes to life. When Harry met Sally We at the Swimming Pool, in collaboration with the City of Hafnarfjörður.

Yes, the film will not only be shown but performed live on stage by actors who resemble Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. The music is also live. The event will be a unique experience on the banks of our Swimming Pool.

„The Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. It's amazing and the atmosphere there is absolutely unique. Guðjón Samúelsson designed the building, which is the perfect place to do something fun for this film,“ says Hrönn about this swimming pool cinema experience on Thursday, 5th February.

„This is going to be the most romantic RIFF Open-Air Cinema screening ever,“ says Hrönn. „The film is so fun and beautiful, romantic. It has a great sense of humour, beautiful music. This is an opportunity to do something fun and different during the depths of winter,“ says Hrönn, running through the adventure, because the experience is completely different from just watching a film.

„We found actors who look very much like Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. We've sorted out the costumes. But the young man is called Bjarni Kristbjörnsson, rather like Billy Crystal himself. He specifically had his hair cut to look even more like Billy. Guðrún Margrét Bjarnadóttir is playing the part of Meg Ryan. They're really into it, and she's incredibly similar to Meg Ryan. The Carmen rollers make all the difference.“

Hrönn describes how the audience drifts into a wonderland at the Sundhöll, „There's live music on the poolside,“ she says. „A jazz band that's practised the hits will be there. She livened up the atmosphere and played songs. And there will be more events.“

Hrönn says the RIFF staff are so excited. „Ticket sales have been going well and we're going to respect the atmosphere in the pool.“

Limited tickets available. Doors open at 18:00, with the film starting at 19:00. Tickets are available via the RIFF website, riff.is
