Cultural and health walks in Hafnarfjörður 2023

Guided town walks will be offered every Wednesday this summer. Most walks take about an hour, participation is free and all are welcome. The walks are a collaboration between Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður.

Come out for a walk every Wednesday this summer 

Guided town walks will be offered every Wednesday this summer. Most walks take about an hour, participation is free and all are welcome. The walks are a collaboration between Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður.

7th June at 20:00 – In the Footsteps of the Housekeeper
Ólöf Bjarnadóttir, a museum curator, will lead a walk to view selected houses designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, the former State Architect. The walk will start from Flensborg.

14th June at 20:00 – Undirhlíðar
Einar Skúlason, from Wappinn, will lead a walk of approximately 5 km, covering the Undirhlíðar from both above and below. The walk will start from the car park at Kaldársel.

21st June at 20:00 – The Lave Fields captivate
Jónatan Garðarsson will lead a walk through the lava fields from Straumur to Óttarsstaðir, discussing the history of the area. The walk will start from the car park at Straumur.

28th June at 20:00 – Aluminium Walk
Sigurbjörg Karlsdóttir and Silja Gunnarsdóttir will lead a walk along the paths of the elves in Hafnarfjörður. The walk will start from the Packhouse of the Folk Museum.

5th July at 17:00 – Family walk on Stórhöfði
Kolbrún Kristínardóttir, a paediatric physiotherapist, will lead a light and easy walk on Stórhöfði for children and parents. The walk will start from the car park on the west side of Hvaleyrarvatn (near Vogar).

12 July at 20:00 – Kaldá and its surroundings
Valgerður Hróðmarsdóttir is leading a walk down to the end of the Kaldá. The walk will start from the car park at Kaldársel.

19 July at 20:00 - Víðistaðatún, history and planning
Thráinn Hauksson, a landscape architect, will walk around the area and talk about its history, design and potential. The walk will start from Víðistaðakirkja.

26th July at 20:00 – Sports in the city centre
Staff from the Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History will lead a walking tour of the sporting history of Hafnarfjörður's town centre. The walk will start from the Museum's Packhouse.

2 August at 20:00 – Broken bench by Ástjörn
Gylfi Ingvarsson will lead a walk around Ástjörn, discussing the history of the area and new benches for walkers to use. The walk will start from Ásvallalaug.

9 August at 17:00 – Rose Walk
Steinar Björgvinsson, manager of the Hafnarfjörður Forestry Association, will lead a walk through the rose and tree collection in Höfðaskógur. The walk will start from Þöll on Kaldárselsveg.

16 August at 20:00 – The International Sculpture Park
Artist Lukas Bury will lead a Polish-language tour of the international sculpture park at Vidisstaðatún. The walk will start from Vidisstaðakirkja.

23rd August at 17:00 – Save Linda!
An Adventure Expedition in Hellisgerði. Participatory theatre for children and adults, full of humour, courage, love and dragon farts! The walk will depart from the Hafnarfjörður Library.

30 August at 20:00 – A flurry of sails in the Fjord
Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir will lead a walk on the trails of women in Hafnarfjörður. The walk will start from the Packhouse of the Folk Museum.
