Emphasis on good maintenance of the borough's school buildings
Over 580 million krónur were spent on maintenance in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools last year. This is stated in the annual report on the schools' maintenance for 2023. Hafnarfjörður emphasises properly maintaining its school buildings, intervening as early as possible to repair anything that goes wrong.
It is important to keep school premises well-maintained.
Over 580 million kronur was spent on the maintenance of school facilities in Hafnarfjörður last year. This is stated in Annual report on the maintenance of the schools for the year 2023. More than was undertaken 520 Maintenance projects in the town's schools. The projects were of varying sizes. Around 200 people are involved in the maintenance of schools and nurseries throughout the year.

In recent years, the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður has placed an emphasis on the maintenance of school buildings with the view that if preventative maintenance is neglected and repairs, such as fixing leaks, are not carried out promptly, the cost of individual projects often becomes many times greater than necessary.
Keep up the good maintenance
Significant emphasis is placed on the maintenance of school buildings in 2024. In schools, it is planned to allocate approximately 30% of the total funds to maintenance. 175.2 million. In addition, it is planned to spend around 335 million króna in investments in schools and school grounds in 2024.
- The maintenance costs for this year, 2024, are therefore expected to be just over 175 million krónur for primary schools, just under 117 million for nurseries, the same amount for swimming pools and sports halls, and nearly 88 million for other items.
A rough estimate for maintenance of school facilities over the next three years is considered to be around 1.1 billion krónur. This includes major maintenance projects, such as Setberg School and the indoor LED retrofit.
Each year, the town council approves budgets for the coming year and a plan for the following three years. The plan reviews the council's main projects for the year and outlines the underlying assumptions.
