String players at the summer music academy!
Melodious tones of violin, viola, and cello are now drifting from Lækjarskóli, Hásölum and the Hafnarfjörður Music School. The HIMA International Music Academy is now in full swing. The course began on 14 June and concludes on 23 June.
The first chamber concerts took place yesterday and the first solo concerts are this evening at 8 p.m. in Hásalar. There's a real buzz at this HIMA International Music Academy. More concerts will be held in Hásalar tomorrow and on Saturday. You can find information about them at himafestival.is and on the HIMA Facebook page. The final concert will then take place in Norðurljós in Harpa on Sunday.
- The first concert on Sunday (Junior Division) will be at 11 am.
- The midday concerts will be at 4 p.m.
- The senior division will then round off HIMA this year at 8 p.m.
Opportunity for musicians
The basic idea behind this HIMA music academy is to create a framework for Icelandic string instrument students so they do not have to reinvent the wheel. The aim is to give young string players the opportunity to attend a highly ambitious music course here in the country. The City of Hafnarfjörður proudly supports these young musicians.
The first HIMA course was held at the Harpa concert hall in 2013. It is now being held for the second time in Hafnarfjörður, but for the first time in collaboration with the town.
Enjoy with the participants. The photos here are from HIMA.
