A working group on the review of leisure centres, leisure grants, and the arrangement of subsidies and fees has, together with staff from the Leisure Services Office, worked on a by-law concerning the operation of leisure centres. This by-law concerns numerous parties in Hafnarfjörður, and it is therefore important to receive comments from as many as possible.

Today, no such agreement exists. Children's and adults' leisure time is precious and there is a growing demand from parents for children's working hours to be more consistent and, furthermore, for the quality of municipal leisure activities to take into account the family's need for time together after the working day.

An after-school club is not a statutory service of the local authority, but it has established itself as an important part of a child's upbringing and learning experience. Work will now begin to increase the provision of interesting activities for pupils in Year 3 and 4 at the after-school clubs, as very few children from this age group have taken part in the activities to date. A special emphasis will also be placed on supporting the literacy campaign in Hafnarfjörður. The after-school clubs will take part in this, and an area will be created for pupils to read and do their homework.

Residents now have the opportunity to review the draft and make comments.

Reviews must be submitted no later than 13th April to the email address geir@hafnarfjordur.is Further enquiries about the project may also be sent if further information is required.
