It is projected that property taxes for residential properties in Hafnarfjörður will rise on average in line with inflation, but it is clear that property valuations in the town, and therefore property taxes, have increased to varying degrees depending on the type of property and its location. The refuse collection charge is also increasing on last year's figure due to the introduction of a new refuse collection system.
Ten payment dates throughout the year – due 30 days after the payment date.

Reduction or abolition of property tax for pensioners on old-age and disability pensions
At the start of the year, pensioners on old-age and disability pensions have been granted a reduction or exemption from property tax, in accordance with rules on income thresholds based on the previous year's tax return, now for 2022. The condition for a reduction or exemption is that it applies to the payer's own home, where they have their legal residence. The property tax relief is recalculated once the 2022 tax return is confirmed by the Tax Authority.
