Hafnarfjörður municipality and The Riding Club Sörli recently signed a contract for the management and operation of the club's sports grounds and facilities. The agreement covers part of the operation of the Sörli sports and leisure area, such as the showjumping and running tracks, fencing, the riding arena, the club stable, facilities on the site and car parks. The basis for the contribution to the operation is based on actual figures from previous years' operations. The agreement is valid until 31 December 2028. Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, and Atli Ingólfsson, Chairman of the Sörli Riding Club, signed the agreement in the popular club stable amidst horses and children.
Club stables for 9-18 year olds
Part of the agreement covers the operation of Sörli's community stables, which is intended for children aged 9-18, and includes a 50% cost contribution from the City of Hafnarfjörður. The aim of the club stable is to provide access to the sport for children who do not have their own access to horses and stables. Sörli establishes procedures for the project to ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to take part in the sport. Organised activities in the club stable take place at least twice a week from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., for nine months of the year. Children can also rent a box in the club stable all year round and look after their horses every day of the year. All children can approach the club house supervisors. The riding club Sörli advertises the club house's activities at least once a year, in addition to having a prominent promotion of the work on its website. Sörli will hold an open day at the club stables at least once a year, thus providing children and young people with the opportunity to experience the adventurous world of the Icelandic horse. Beginners are offered assistance to take their first steps under the guidance of instructors, go horse riding, learn the basics of horse care and handling, and thus get a real insight into what is involved in keeping a horse. Sörli's Club Stables is located at Sörlaskeið 24, in a spacious and very convenient stable, which also has indoor access to a small riding arena.
Sörli received the LH Youth Cup in autumn 2022.
