Skólastofan ehf. presented its report on improved academic achievement in Hafnarfjörður this morning at a meeting of the Hafnarfjörður Education Committee. Ingvar Sigurgeirsson, a professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Iceland, and an employee of Skólastofan, presented an evaluation of the town's school work with a focus on the schools' potential to achieve improved academic results, particularly with regard to literacy and numeracy.
The report presents various proposals for possible measures to achieve improved results. Furthermore, the report's authors assess that the literacy project already underway is off to a very good start and offers positive prospects for further improvements in student achievement in Hafnarfjörður.
It is now time to add maths to the steering group at the School Office, which already oversees the literacy project. Further support needs to be provided to schools to improve the academic achievement of students in Hafnarfjörður, and that is the project going forward.
