Vitality Day at Helgafell, 28 September

News

Everyone has the opportunity for good company and to support a good cause at the Life Force Day, which will be held on the 28th of September in the Helgafell area of Hafnarfjörður.

Let's show solidarity against cancer

The charity Lífskraftur, in collaboration with the health town of Hafnarfjörður, 66°North and the Cancer Society, is organising the Lífskraftur Day, which will be held on 28 September this year on the land of Helgafell in Hafnarfjörður. The aim of the day is to show solidarity against cancer, as well as to highlight the importance of the outdoors and self-empowerment in rehabilitation during and/or after illness.

Fanney Dóróthe Halldórsdóttir, Director of the Education and Public Health Department, will open the programme at 10 a.m. and representatives from the Cancer Society and Lífskraft will say a few words. The snowflakes behind Lífskraft will lead a walking route, a running route and a cycling route, and all the groups will set off at 10:30 from the car park at Helgafell.. Passers-by are encouraged to take part and find their own vitality.

The Pink Life Force Jumper will be on sale during the event and is produced by 66°North. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Cancer Society's cervical cancer prevention projects.

Donate to the Cancer Society

„It was fantastic to hear that Lífskraftur had decided to support the Cancer Society this year,“ says Halla Þorvaldsdóttir, Managing Director of the Cancer Society. „The aims of the two organisations certainly align, as Lífskraftur emphasises exercise, which has a great preventative value against a number of cancers, as well as improving the well-being of people with cancer and after completing cancer treatment. The Cancer Society's goals are very clear: to reduce the number of people who get cancer, increase the number of people who survive, and to improve the quality of life for those who fall ill and their families. Exercise helps to achieve all of these goals. Thank you very much – dear Life Force Ladies, and hopefully Helgarfell will be bustling with people keeping fit.“

Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the mayor of Hafnarfjörður, says it is admirable when people come together and care about their community, just as the Snowflakes do with the Life Force Day. „Their initiative and solidarity against cancer reminds us of the importance of exercising and leading a healthy life, as well as supporting good causes. The Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður proudly takes part in this project as the Snowflakes hold their event in the natural surroundings of Hafnarfjörður. This is a great opportunity to get stronger and support an important cause, and I encourage as many people as possible to take part in a fun and rewarding outdoor activity.“

Let's strengthen all life force.

Sirrý Ágústsdóttir, Snjódrífa and founder of Lífskraftur, says it is essential to boost and strengthen one's Lífskraftur with exercise. „Being outdoors is a fantastic way to do this, and we are so incredibly lucky to live in a country that offers magnificent nature in our own back garden. By engaging in regular exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, we are taking preventative action and improving our quality of life for the future. We hope that as many people as possible will come and exercise with us in support of the fight against cancer.“
