Five information-packed talks will be delivered in one-hour speed-dating sessions with you, parents, at Hafnarborg on Tuesday, 9th June. The talks will be given by five of the City of Hafnarfjörður's specialists in prevention and children's affairs. We encourage you all to attend.

Come to the speed dating – it's worth it.

Five experts from the City of Hafnarfjörður will open the drawers and share the key developments in children's affairs in the city with residents and interested parties at an open meeting at the Pharmacy in Hafnarborg on Tuesday, 9 June.
The summer holidays and family time are approaching, and it's a good opportunity to pause and consider the situation and experiences of our children. The five experts are:
  • Þórunn Þórarinsdóttir, Coordinator of the Hafnarfjörður Youth Council and Project Manager for the Child-Friendly Municipality.
  • Kristín Blöndal Ragnarsdóttir, Teaching Fellow in Human Rights.
  • Jóna Rán Pétursdóttir, the town's prevention officer.
  • Tinna Rós Steinsdóttir, Sports Officer.
  • Hildur Ýr Jónsdóttir, project manager for multiculturalism.

Numerous changes and events have taken place in recent terms here in Hafnarfjörður. Our young people have taken part in youth parliaments, a multicultural conference has been held, and the situation of our young people has been surveyed. The specialists have delved into the results and prepared a summary for us. They will tell us about the current situation and offer sound advice – all in one hour at Hafnarborg. You could say it's a speed-dating session with you, the parents of Hafnarfjörður, where every minute is packed with information that will be useful to you over the summer and beyond.

First fast lecture. „Sometimes we are afraid to say what we think“ – A summary of the findings from the Hafnarfjörður Children's Council, where children aged 10-12 provided insight into their home life, friendships and school life.

Another urgent message. Young people and violence – How are young people in Hafnarfjörður meeting each other, and what does a modern romantic relationship look like? How can we guide them towards healthy relationships? What are the red flags, and where can families turn for help?
Speaker: Kristín Blöndal Ragnarsdóttir, Teaching Fellow in Human Rights.
Third fast track.  Statistics on the risk behaviour and well-being of primary school pupils – Where are alcohol and drugs appearing in primary schools, and how are the children feeling now?
Speaker: Jóna Rán Pétursdóttir, prevention officer.
Fourth fast track. The Leisure Grant – How the grant is distributed to children in Hafnarfjörður, an overview of its use in 2025, and information on the changed arrangement.
Speaker: Tinna Rós Steinsdóttir, Sports Officer.
The fifth and final fast-paced talk. Compulsory schooling and what next? – What is the situation of children of foreign origin in Hafnarfjörður and what is on offer to them in their free time? An account of this winter's collaborative projects.
Speaker: Hildur Ýr Jónsdóttir, project manager for multiculturalism.

Together, we are the village – join us!

In autumn 2024, the City of Hafnarfjörður and the health town of Hafnarfjörður launched the series of meetings: We are the Village – about the issues of children and young people, their well-being and safety.

In 2025, we continued the games and meetings under the slogan: We are the village – let's look each other in the eye. Yes, the collaboration between homes, schools and the community is so important. We are continuing with it and meeting under the banner of 'We are the village', as is now the case in Hafnarfjörður. child-friendly municipality UNICEF in Iceland.
