We are looking for a dynamic IT Teaching Assistant with a passion for school development, who wants to help shape the digital future of the town's primary schools. Emphasis is placed on good collaboration between professionals and a cross-curricular approach to ensure the success of the children. 

The Education and Public Health Department fosters a professional environment where ambition, trust and solution-focused working practices are prioritised, and staff are supported and given opportunities for development, including through training and professional development. Emphasis is placed on strong relationships with the school community, parents and other partners, both within and outside the municipality.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Working on strategy development, such as curriculum development and action plans in the field of information technology
  • Monitor surveys on the development of school activities and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitors compliance with data protection laws regarding student software and advises schools accordingly.
  • Organises and manages training and professional development for teachers and management in the field of information technology, in collaboration with schools and staff of the primary and nursery education department.
  • Provides advice and guidance to school staff, parents and pupils on preventative measures concerning pupils' use of the internet (digital citizenship).
  • Participation in collaboration with leisure services, youth centres, prevention officers of Hafnarfjörður and other municipalities in the field of information technology in school activities.
  • Participation in the strategic direction, development and innovation of school activities in Hafnarfjörður.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teaching licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
  • Further education in project management and/or information technology
  • Primary school teaching experience
  • Experience of information technology in school work
  • Experience in project management is desirable.
  • Experience in teaching advisory is desirable
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Initiative, independence and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage projects and teamwork
  • Good command of Icelandic and English, both spoken and written.
  • Very good computer skills
