This is the first formal version of the plan, although its principles have been applied in the council's responses over recent years. The plan establishes a clear framework for the organisation, responsibilities and management of actions in the event of a disaster or emergency. „The safety of residents is our most important task. With this response plan, we are strengthening management and coordination for when the pressure is on, and ensuring that we are as well-prepared as possible to respond to different situations.“ says Valdimar Víðisson, the mayor.
Prioritisation, coordination and integrated management
The plan is developed in cooperation with the Capital Region Fire and Rescue Service, Civil Protection, and other municipalities in the capital region. It is based on the experience of previous years and takes into account the increased demands for swift, coordinated and professional responses in an increasingly complex society. The aim of the plan is to ensure clear prioritisation, coordination and unified management, with the safety and interests of residents as the guiding principle. Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring continuity in publicly essential services, such as social services, education, infrastructure and information provision.

Valdimar Víðisson, Mayor, and Jón Viðar Matthíasson, Director of the Civil Defence Committee of the Capital Region. The municipal emergency management is activated in the event of an impending threat or emergency and is tasked with making swift and informed decisions, coordinating actions and prioritising resources. The plan has been presented to the town council for information.
