Find the right hobby at the Hobby Fair

Yes, our children often spend a long time trying to find the best leisure activity – the one that suits them. Now they have the opportunity to try out many of them at once.

The aim of the first Leisure Fair in Hafnarfjörður is to make things easier for them. The Leisure Fair will be held in the sports hall on Strandgata on Saturday 29 August from 10 am to 2 pm.

Fifteen clubs are presenting their activities. Often, you don't need much equipment to be able to take part. Today, we'll introduce four of them.

• Hafnarfjörður Badminton Club Table Tennis Section Table tennis is a fun and fast-paced sport that can be played for pleasure or competitively. Around 100 people of all ages play table tennis at BH. Information on training times and registration is available on Badminton Association. A request must be made for a trial on bh@bhbadminton.is. The club lends paddles and balls, and beginners only need comfortable sportswear and indoor shoes to get started.

• The Archery Club Hrói Höttur Archery is a varied sport that suits a wide range of participants. You can try different types of bows, train for pleasure, or aim to take part in tournaments and competitions. There are around 90 members at the archery club, Hrói Hetti. The club provides beginners with all the necessary equipment. Registration takes place at Big Fat Hot Dog.

• Hafnarfjörður Dance Sports Club The Hafnarfjörður Dance Sport Club offers ballroom dancing, children's dancing, salsa, bachata and Zumba. The youngest members are two to three years old and they train for free until Christmas. Around 300 students take part in the club's courses each year. Classes begin on 5 September and end with a Christmas ball and a student showcase. Registration takes place on Abler or by email at dihdans@simnet.is. Further information is available at dih.is.

• Hafnarfjörður School of Choreography The Hafnarfjörður School of Dance offers a diverse range of dance courses, including jazz, commercial, musical theatre, ballet, contemporary dance and silks. Emphasis is placed on a strong social life, and students can take part in competitions, performances, events and training trips. The school has around 350 students, and won two world championship titles at the Dance World Cup in Dublin last summer.
