Five-year-olds among those receiving free-time grant

Child-friendly municipality News

Five-year-olds are being added to the group of children who receive a leisure allowance. From 15 August, five-year-olds will receive a half-rate allowance of 28,500 krónur per year. The City of Hafnarfjörður has until now paid the allowance to 6- to 18-year-olds.

Five-year-olds now receive a childcare allowance

This autumn, five-year-olds will also receive a leisure support grant. The children will receive half the grant, 28,500 krónur per year, or 2,375 from 15 August onwards. Until now, Hafnarfjörður has provided sports and leisure activity grants for children aged 6–18, amounting to 4,750 kr. per month. A step is now being taken to support more children in leisure activities. But how does the leisure grant work? Let's go over it.

Hafnarfjörður encourages parents and guardians to use the grant and give children the opportunity to find a hobby they will love.

Utilisation of strength

When parents or guardians electronically register a child for an activity with a sports and leisure club, they can choose to use a leisure grant through Sportabler with those clubs that have an agreement with the town. The grant is deducted from participation fees each month. Unfortunately, it is not possible to refund the grant from a club once it has been allocated there.

The societies can be in or outside Hafnarfjörður. Students studying music can also use the leisure grant.
