Christmas preparations at the Innovation Centre
The run-up to Christmas will be even better with a packed programme at the Innovation Centre by the Stream. There will be a host of events, and it's clear that the events at the centre are a fantastic addition to the wonderful run-up to Christmas programme here in Hafnarfjörður. Let's take a look.
28th November at 16:00: Christmas lights switched on
Every year, as December approaches and darkness falls over the town, a special tradition is given new life at the Innovation Centre by the Stream. Then, precious Christmas pictures created by former pupils of the Lækjarskóli decades ago are brought out. You are most welcome to this festive occasion when the lights will be switched on.
A cosy atmosphere, music, hot chocolate and Father Christmas might come to visit.

1st Dec - 23rd Dec: Christmasland at Kubbinum
The Kubb Christmasland opens for the first time this year. Visitors are invited to step into a beautiful, warm and bright Christmas space that delights the young and old alike. The Innovation Centre's exhibition hall by the stream will be open daily from 09:00 to 22:00 over the festive period.
We encourage everyone to pop in, have a stroll around the Christmas village, enjoy the decorations and have a coffee or hot chocolate at their leisure.
3rd December, 3-7 pm: Open workshop - Christmas jumper workshop
Between 3pm and 7pm, the tech workshop at the Innovation Centre will open its doors to anyone who wants to design their own Christmas jumper. With the help of staff and equipment such as a vinyl cutter and a heat press, you can create a unique jumper – or even decorate a tote bag or other cotton material.
You only pay for the materials. You can bring your own jumper or item of clothing to decorate.
A warm and cosy atmosphere, a hot pot of tea and a good mood await those who wish to combine creativity with the Christmas spirit. Join in!
5th Dec: Christmas Market, 5pm-8pm
Still need to finish your Christmas shopping? Need to get rid of an item of clothing or find your Christmas outfit? Or would you simply like to sell your artwork?
On 5th December from 17:00-20:00, the Innovation Centre is hosting a Christmas market in Kubbinum. Here, participants and guests will have the opportunity to find Christmas decorations, clothing and artwork, or Christmas gifts, in an environmentally friendly and creative way—by swapping, selling or buying at affordable prices.
Everyone is encouraged to bring used, intact and tidy items, even in the spirit of Christmas, and take part in creating a beautiful and sustainable Christmas tradition.
Artists also have the opportunity to sell their own work in this warm and diverse environment – a great way to support local talent and find unique Christmas gifts with a personal touch.

9th Dec: The shelter Lækur is hosting a final art exhibition from 13:00 to 15:00.
The Lækur shelter, a refuge for people wanting to break social isolation, is holding an opening exhibition showcasing the work of numerous artists who all share the common bond of being regular visitors to Lækur. The works were created this autumn under the guidance of staff from the Innovation Centre, where participants had the opportunity to develop their talents and create unique pieces.
Coffee and mince pies will be served. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and chat with the artists behind the works and about the creative process. The exhibition runs until 21 December. All welcome.
10th Dec: Open workshop 3-7 pm - DIY Christmas gifts and card making
Between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the Tech Lab and the Experiment Lab at the Innovation Centre will open their doors to the public for a creative Christmas session. Come and make DIY Christmas gifts or cards – use the facilities, try out the 3D printer, laser cutter or vinyl cutter, or simply paint and design a beautiful, heartfelt creation. Staff will be on hand to help and guide you.
You only pay for materials – a warm and cosy atmosphere, a hot pot on the table and a great atmosphere await all who wish to combine creativity and the Christmas spirit.
Come and create your own Christmas presents!
17th Dec: Open workshop 3-7 pm - Christmas decorations
From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the tech and experiment workshops at the Innovation Centre will be open to everyone who wants to create their own Christmas decorations. Here you will have the opportunity to design unique decorations – whether they are made from wood, plastic, vinyl or another material that captures the Christmas spirit.
You can use a 3D printer, laser cutter or vinyl cutter, or simply pick up a paintbrush and decorate in your own style. The staff on site are always on hand to offer guidance and help turn your idea into a reality.
You only pay for the materials, but the package also includes a warm Christmas atmosphere and creativity in the air.
19th Dec: Art exhibition
A pop-up art exhibition will be held in the Kubbin at the Innovation Centre by the Stream on 19 December. .

22nd Dec - Open house from 1pm-7pm - Christmas celebration!
You and your family are invited to our cosy Christmas celebration on 22nd December. The celebration starts at 13:00 and runs until 19:00 in our beautiful house by the stream. Bring the children, family or friends and spend a stress-free, cosy and fun afternoon, where the Christmas spirit, creativity and togetherness come together.
The programme is varied and everyone is welcome to view the space, get to know the house and take part in the day's festive events.
Í The nest A Christmas film will be shown where guests can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in a warm setting. In the house, there is a wrapping table where guests can wrap their Christmas presents in a beautiful and creative way.
Í The Tech Foundry and The Experimental Workshop A Christmas and card-making workshop will be held, where everyone can let their creativity run wild and make unique gifts or cards.
Hot chocolate and coffee, gingerbread biscuits in The cup and Christmas music echoing through the corridors creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. Art exhibitions in the house are still ongoing and the Christmasland is open to all visitors.
Come and find the warmth on a cold winter's day, enjoy the beautiful Christmas surroundings and celebrate Christmas with us at the Innovation Centre.
