New headteacher of Hvaleyrarskóli
Kristinn Guðlaugsson has been appointed headteacher of Hvaleyrarskóli in Hafnarfjörður, effective 1 August 2015. Kristinn was born in Hafnarfjörður in 1968 and attended Öldutúnsskóli, later obtaining his school-leaving certificate from Flensborgarskóli. He qualified as a physical education teacher at Laugarvatn and completed further studies at the Norwegian University of Sport and Physical Education in 1994. Hörðuvellir 80 years
The Hörðuvellir nursery school, by the Lækinn in Hafnarfjörður, is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and, to mark the occasion, a birthday party was held at the school today. The school began operating in 1935, but for two years prior to that, it ran a summer programme. The school was originally founded by the town's working women. Children and staff at the school had prepared much for the celebration, including a cake decorated with the school's history.
Parents pleased with the after-school clubs
A new survey of parents of children at Hafnarfjörður's after-school clubs, conducted in March, shows increased satisfaction with the service.
