Vidistaðaskóli is seeking to appoint a Manager of Support Services on a 100% contract. The appointment is from 1 August 2026.
Vidistaðaskóli is a team-teaching school with a variety of teaching methods. The school has 2-4 classes per year group, depending on the year. At the start of the school year, there were around 520 pupils in the school.
The guiding principles of Víðistaðaskóli are: Responsibility – Respect – Friendship, and the school's work is in their spirit.
At Víðistaðaskóli, emphasis is placed on preparing students for the future in a democratic manner. The school operates in the spirit of democracy, and special assemblies are held where various issues are discussed; this work is also connected to The Convention on the Rights of the Child. We are a health-promoting primary school that cares for its environment in the spirit of the Green Flag.
Emphasis is placed on fostering tolerance, open-mindedness and responsibility in students, along with respect for themselves and their environment. This lays the foundation for students' independent thinking and their ability to collaborate with others. Key responsibilities and duties:
- Manages the daily operations and teaches within the school's support services, as well as handling staff administration as appropriate.
- Works to develop school operations in collaboration with management and colleagues.
- Promoting the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
- Works in accordance with the school's policy for the welfare of pupils.
- Gathers and shares information within and outside the school for students with special needs.
- Prepares and chairs consultation meetings within the support services
- Prepares reports for the support service
- Manages screenings and analyses and follows them up.
- Responsible for the induction and transition planning of students with special needs.
- Supports the staff of the support service and provides professional advice.
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements:
- Teaching licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
- Extensive teaching experience in primary school
- Further education in the field of education or pedagogy
- Management experience is an advantage.
- Experience and involvement in management of a diverse nature, particularly from primary school.
- Interest in working with children and young people
- Proficiency in a variety of teaching methods
- Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
- Initiative and autonomy in work methods
- Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
- Punctuality and conscientiousness
- Good command of Icelandic, C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Association.
