Hafnarfjörður is seeking to hire a capable and positive employee for a varied and rewarding role in the homes of disabled people with mental health challenges. The work is carried out in accordance with the Servant-Leadership philosophy.
This is an exciting and enjoyable shift-based role with a variety of tasks, where the emphasis is on good communication, respect, independence and the participation of residents in their daily lives.
The working hours can be well suited to studying. Shifts are in the mornings, evenings and at weekends. Weekday morning shifts are from 08:00–12:00.
It is desirable that the person can start work from and including 1 September 2026.
Key responsibilities and duties
- Providing residents with support with activities of daily living
- To support and encourage residents to be independent and to take part in their own lives.
- Encourage residents to participate in the community and in leisure activities.
- Have fun at work, be a good role model for others and show initiative.
- Adhere to service plans and procedures
- General household chores
- Communication with various service providers
- Other duties as described in the job description
Competency requirements
- Interest in the affairs of disabled people
- Experience in similar roles is desirable.
- Icelandic proficiency A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- Service-mindedness and positivity at work
- Good interpersonal skills
- Initiative, responsibility and conscientiousness
- Good general computer skills
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
- A driving licence is a requirement.
It is desirable that the person concerned has achieved at the age of 20. Conditions for employment are a clean criminal record.

The salary is in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Staff Association of Hafnarfjörður.
