Skarðshlíðarskóli is seeking a driven and dynamic collections manager for an 80–90% post.
The school's values are collaboration, friendship and perseverance. Skarðshlíðarskóli has enthusiastic and fun pupils, a dedicated staff and a strong parent body. We emphasise a good working atmosphere, team teaching, varied teaching methods, SMT school skills, and ensuring all pupils achieve good results in play and work. Mílan is an integral part of the school's work, which involves pupils and staff going outside daily to walk, jog or run for 15 minutes.
The implementation of UDL (Universal Design for Learning) began in the autumn of 2020. UDL provides students with the opportunity to learn in different ways and to demonstrate their skills in different ways. Students are active and have an influence on their own learning.
Skarðshlíðarskóli is a comprehensive primary school with pupils in years 1 to 10. This winter, there are around 530 pupils at the school. The school building is impressive and the school is well-equipped, with a sports hall, a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School, and a four-department nursery school in an adjoining building.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Managing the library's operations
- Manage the purchase of new books/collection development
- Catalogue and classify the library's book stock
- Assisting students with information gathering and book selection
- Work closely with staff and provide them with advice
- Education on library and information literacy
- Participation in reading-promoting projects
- Participation in the school's development projects
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements:
- An M.A. degree in Information Studies or a B.A. degree in Information Studies and extensive professional experience in the specialism.
- Knowledge of the Alma library system is an advantage.
- Experience and knowledge of library work desirable.
- Accuracy in work methods
- A burning passion for working with children and young people
- Ability to express oneself orally and in writing in Icelandic and English.
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Initiative and organisational skills
- Very good computer skills
The Council is in office from 1 August 2026.
A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.
