Hraunvallar Nursery School is looking for staff for a 100% nursery school position.

We are looking for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals with experience of working with children.  

Hraunvallar Nursery School is a four-unit nursery school located in Völlunum, Hafnarfjörður. The nursery works according to the philosophy of John Dewey, and its work is characterised by multiculturalism, where, for example, respect is shown for the individual, their culture and background, and everyone has the same opportunity to learn. There is a very good partnership with Hraunvallaskóli, as the nursery is in the same building as the primary school. The nursery's values are friendship, cooperation and responsibility, which are reflected in all its work.

We are looking for enthusiastic and responsible individuals who are passionate about the role.

The nurseries of Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, based on a 36-hour working week for all staff.

Key responsibilities and duties: 

• Carries out tasks concerning the upbringing and education of children as assigned by the head.
• Participates in professional work under the direction of the department manager.
• Works in partnership with the children's parents/guardians.
• Other tasks as specified in the job description and as assigned to the employee by their manager.

Educational and competency requirements:

• Experience of working in a nursery or other roles with children is desirable.
• Communication skills and teamwork skills.
• Initiative, ambition and independence in work methods.
• Positivity, solution-orientation and flexibility.
• Icelandic proficiency at a minimum of C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

A clean criminal record is required upon employment.

If a qualified teacher is recruited, they will be given priority for the post in accordance with the Act No. 95/2019. We encourage teachers to apply. A teaching licence must accompany the application.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hlíf Trade Union, or KÍ if an individual with teacher training applies for the post.
