Hvaleyrarskóli is looking to hire a school and leisure assistant at Bjarg on a 70% contract until the end of the 2026-2027 school year.

This is a position that involves providing support and assistance to students in Bjargi, a department within the school for students seeking international protection. A special emphasis is placed on catering to all groups.

Hvaleyrarskóli has around 350 pupils in years 1 to 10. The school's motto is responsibility, courtesy and cooperation, and all its work is reflected in these words. The school works according to the SMT school-wide approach, which means that the emphasis is on approaching pupils in a positive way, paying more attention to good behaviour, and thus creating a positive school atmosphere.  Key responsibilities and duties:

• Is there support for children in lessons and in open areas?
• Works closely with teachers in Bjarg (a department for students who have applied for international protection)
• Welcomes students and assists them.
• Carries out patrol and monitoring duties for the premises and equipment, and keeps walkways and grounds tidy throughout the day.
• Covers break time supervision, escort and supervision during the daily school routine.
• Supervises and assists the children in play and work.

Educational and competency requirements:

• A specific qualification is not required.
• Experience in similar roles is desirable.
• Interest in professional work with children and young people
• Icelandic proficiency A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
• Spanish language skills are an advantage.
• Collaboration and communication skills
• Independent and organised working methods
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances

A clean criminal record is required upon employment.

The remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
