Litter lost in the city centre and on the Völlunum

This morning, council staff from the Town Hall and Norðurhellan went out and picked up litter in the town centre and at Völlunum. A joint effort against domestic violence

Haraldur L. Haraldsson, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, Ármann Kr. New headteacher of Hvaleyrarskóli

Kristinn Guðlaugsson has been appointed headteacher of Hvaleyrarskóli in Hafnarfjörður, effective 1 August 2015. Kristinn was born in Hafnarfjörður in 1968 and attended Öldutúnsskóli, later obtaining his school-leaving certificate from Flensborgarskóli.  He qualified as a physical education teacher at Laugarvatn and completed further studies at the Norwegian University of Sport and Physical Education in 1994. Hörðuvellir 80 years

The Hörðuvellir nursery school, by the Lækinn in Hafnarfjörður, is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and, to mark the occasion, a birthday party was held at the school today. The school began operating in 1935, but for two years prior to that, it ran a summer programme. The school was originally founded by the town's working women. Children and staff at the school had prepared much for the celebration, including a cake decorated with the school's history.

Parents pleased with the after-school clubs

A new survey of parents of children at Hafnarfjörður's after-school clubs, conducted in March, shows increased satisfaction with the service. Around 750 children attend the borough's after-school clubs, and responses were received from 259 parents. A shared commitment to promoting vocational training in Hafnarfjörður

Representatives of the City of Hafnarfjörður met with the Minister of Education yesterday regarding the planned merger of the Hafnarfjörður Vocational School with the Technical College. Today, Monday 4 May, applications, together with a cover letter, were delivered to all primary schools in Hafnarfjörður. The pupils take the forms home to fill in with a parent or guardian and then return them to the school by the end of the week.
