A parade, a Viking festival, a traditional costume gathering and a multicultural food festival will be among the events in Hafnarfjörður on Iceland's National Day.
The programme runs from morning until evening. It begins with the flags being raised at the flagpole at 8 a.m. on the Hamar, and ends with Jón Jónsson taking to the stage at the end of the music festival in Ráðhústorg from around 9:15 p.m. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Elín Hall, Elvar, Kristmundur Axel and gusgusar will perform before Jón Jónsson takes to the stage.
The heart of Hafnarfjörður skips a beat on National Day. You can meet the Sports Elf and Solla in the beautiful fjord, as well as so many others, because the town centre will be full of life, fun, art and music.
The parade starts from Flensburg School at 1 pm at Thorsplan and Rådhustorv, where the festival reaches its climax. There will be entertainment, concerts, dancing, disco and a variety of delicious refreshments.
There is sea swimming and a steam bath on offer, you can check out the Vikings at the Viking Festival, try roller skating or even badminton. You can also see Annríkur's folk costume show and take part in the children's singing in the evening at 5 p.m. in Hellisgerði.
Children can enjoy a play workshop run by Plánetu, get face painting at Hörðuvellir or on Thorsplan, and there will also be bouncy castles all over town. Art lovers can view new exhibitions at both Port city and on The Folk Museum. Free entry.
We encourage residents and visitors to park near the town centre and walk into the area, enjoy the day together – and leave the dogs at home 🐾.
