Lækjarskóli is advertising for a teacher for the lower or middle school for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Lækjarskóli has a history dating back to 1877 and is situated in a beautiful, green environment by the Lækjará in Hafnarfjörður. A new school building was constructed, bright and spacious, and opened in 2002. The school has a swimming pool and a sports hall, among other facilities. There are nearly 500 pupils in total, of whom almost 140 are in the upper school. All pupils from the 5th to the 10th grade are provided with their own tablet to use.  

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Responsible for general teaching at the middle school level, using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Working on the development of UDL and other school development at Lækjarskóli in collaboration with the school community.
  • Promoting the well-being of students in partnership with the school community
  • Working according to SMT school skills
  • Take part in the school's strategic planning.
  • Other duties as described in the job description

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Licence to use the professional title of primary school teacher (a licence must accompany the application)
  • Experience and knowledge of a variety of teaching methods for the middle school level is desirable.
  • Aptitude for communication and flexibility in work
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
  • Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum C1 according to Self-assessment framework
  • Extensive computer skills and a good knowledge of G-Suite and Mentor.
  • Interest in team teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Association of Primary School Teachers.
