Stígðu inn í heim ‘Hlýja Kuldans’ sem er útskriftarverk Jennýjar úr Konunglega Listaháskólanum í Haag, Hollandi. Ljósmyndasýningin er innblásin af nýútgefinni ljósmyndabók ‘Warmth of the cold’ og er bókin einlægt ferðalag í gegnum kuldalegt landslag þar sem hún rannsakar hlýjuna sem verður til við sjóinn að vetri til.

Sjórinn hefur aðdráttarafl en á sama tíma getur hann verið ógnvekjandi. Áherslan er lögð á hversu stór náttúruöflin eru á móti frumum líkamans. Þessi öfl geta leitt fólk saman og búið til samfélagskennd. Á síðum ljósmyndabókarinnar eru myndir frá ‘Spaarnestad Photo Collection.’ Til marks um söguna um að það sé ekkert nýtt við að koma saman í kuldanum, bara í sundfötum.

Manneskjur safnast saman sem skjöldur á sjávarbakkanum og mynda verndarhring. Týndar í straumum augnabliksins komast þær í flæði þar sem tími og hætta hverfa á braut. Í þessari kraftmiklu einingu verða líkamar og hafið að einu. Spurningin er ekki að sigrast á ólgusjónum heldur sigrast á ólgunni innra með sér. Hræðsla verður minni þegar fleiri eru í sömu sporum eða í sömu sjósundsskónum.

Jenný Mikaelsdóttir (1997) er ljósmyndari frá Íslandi. Hún lauk nýlega BA-prófi í ljósmyndun frá Konunglega Listaháskólanum í Haag, þar sem hún er búsett. Hún vinnur með þemu sem snerta á sálarlífi og mannlegri hegðun. Verkin verða oft leit að jafnvægi í andstæðum umhverfisins. Náttúran veitir innblástur. Með því að tileinka sér innsæi og leik í verkefnum sínum skapar hún ljóðræna spennu milli ljósmyndarinnar og annarra þátta eins og texta, klippimynda og skjalasafna.

‘Warmth of the cold’ ljósmyndabókin var prentuð í takmörkuðu upplagi og verður til sölu á sýningunni ásamt ljósmyndum.

Step into the world of ‘Warmth of the cold’ a photo exhibition inspired by the newly published photo book with the same title. Created as part of Jenný’s graduation work from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands. The work is a sincere journey through a cold landscape where she investigates the warmth that arises beside the sea during winter.

The sea has a magnetic allure yet in the same breath, it carries a touch of threat. The focus is on how great the natural forces are against the cells of the body. These forces aren’t just powerful; they can unite us, creating a strong sense of community. Within the pages of the photo book are images from the ‘Spaarnestad Photo Collection.’ Illustrating the story that there is nothing new about coming together in the cold, solely in swimwear.

Individuals gather as a shield on the seashore, forming a protective circle. Lost in the currents of the moment, they enter a flow where time and danger dissolve. In this powerful unity, their bodies of water become one with the sea. The question is not to overcome the stormy seas but to conquer the inner storm. Fear decreases as more people follow the same path or wear the same sea swimming shoes.

Jenný Mikaelsdóttir (1997) is a photographer from Iceland who recently completed a BA in Photography from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where she is based. Her work explores themes related to the human psyche and behaviour, often striving to find harmony within contrasting environments. Nature serves as a source of inspiration for her. By embracing intuition and play into her projects, she creates a poetic tension between photography and other elements such as text, collage, and archives.

‘Warmth of the cold’ photo book will be available for purchase at the exhibition, along with prints.
