Þetta verk kannar hin hálu mörk skynjunar og meðvitundar, milli þess sem við tökum óvirkt inn og þess sem við viðurkennum meðvitað. Kjarni þessarar sýningar er spennan milli þess að hlusta og heyra, sjá og fylgjast með. Verkin kanna hvernig við skilgreinum okkur sjálf með því sem við veljum að veita athygli og hvað týnist á jaðri skynjunar okkar.

Verkin á þessari sýningu faðma óhlutlægni sem bæði sjónræna og heyrnarlega aðferð til að trufla tafarlausa viðurkenningu. Með lagskiptum áferðum, breytilegum formum og hverfulum hljóðheimum bjóða verkin áhorfendum að hægja á sér og spyrja spurninga um fyrstu hugsun sína. Samspil skynjunar, hljóða án skýrra uppspretta og mynda án kunnuglegra akkera hvetur til dýpri þátttöku sem endurspeglar ferlið við að fylgjast með eða hlusta djúpt.

Tvívíddarverk og hljóðinnsetningar eru kynntar áhorfandanum sem óhlutlægni en eru gerðar úr því að keyra kóðalínur í hugbúnaði. Hefðbundin tölvuforritunarmál eru notuð til að búa til sjónrænt efni og hljóðverk fylla sýningarsalinn með verkum sem eru fagurfræðilega ekki oft tengd miðlinum sem þau eru búin til með.

Kiel Fletcher er nýmiðla- og myndbandslistamaður búsettur í Oregon. Verk hans hafa verið sýnd í Tate Britain, Disjecta Contemporary Arts og nýlega í Scalehouse Contemporary Art. Fletcher lauk MFA-gráðu í myndlist frá Pacific Northwest College of Art og BFA-gráðu í höggmyndalist og stafrænum miðlum frá Háskólanum í Colorado.

This body of work explores the slippery boundary between perception and awareness, between what we passively take in and what we consciously acknowledge. At the heart of this exhibition is the tension between listening and hearing, seeing and observing. The works explore how we define ourselves by what we choose to pay attention to, and what gets lost in the margins of our perception.

The work in this exhibition embraces abstraction as both a visual and auditory strategy to disrupt immediate recognition. Through layered textures, shifting forms, and ephemeral soundscapes, the works invite viewers to slow down and question their initial impressions. The interplay between sensory triggers, sounds without clear sources, and images without familiar anchors encourages a deeper engagement that mirrors the process of truly observing or deeply listening.

2D works and sound installations are presented to the viewer as abstraction while made from executing lines of code in pieces of software. Traditional computer coding languages are used to create visuals, and generative sound works to fill the gallery with work that is aesthetically not often associated with the medium with which they are created.

Kiel Fletcher, is an Oregon based, new media and video artist. His work has been shown at the Tate Britain, Disjecta Contemporary Arts, and recently at the Scalehouse Contemporary Art. Fletcher received an MFA in Visual Studies from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and a BFA in Sculpture and Digital Media from the University of Colorado.
